The Yellow Dress From How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Was Great, But Let's Talk About Andie's Shorts

If your memory of 2003's cinematic classic How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a bit hazy, that's ok. All you really need to know is that it revolves around two adults — played by Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey — who, despite a few bets and lies, weirdly end up falling in love. Andie Anderson (Hudson) is a 'How To' girl at a magazine (a job I promise you doesn't exist — I would have applied). Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) mysteriously has a southern accent, despite the fact that he's from Staten Island. And then, there are Andie's outfits, which are iconic, enviable, and hold up to this day.

While the yellow evening dress from the film is definitely the favorite among the fashion crowd (it's still being recreated or referenced by brands), there's another look that passes by quickly but deserves recognition, too. In a scene that shows Andie lounging on a rooftop with her friends (yes, that's Kathryn Hahn!), scheming about Ben's boys' night, she's wearing a cropped sweater paired with some adorable, eye-catching striped shorts.

To be honest, I'd wear any of these outfits, and especially love the daisy top worn by Michelle (Hahn). But, Andie's striped shorts are something that truly belongs in my closet. I already own multiple pairs thanks to last summer's fashion clown trend, and can only imagine the many ways I'd style this light, bright, rainbow version. For example: Andie's pairing makes me think they'd work with a tiny cardigan, while my love of mixing prints tempts me to wear them with polka-dots. In a way, they're simple and sort of neutral, so I could get away with a statement top. At the same time, they'd really give a white T-shirt a boost.

The good news is, there are plenty of similar striped shorts that are available to shop right now. So, whether I purchase this Mavi version ($78; nordstrom.com), a pair from Forever 21 ($18; forever21.com), or pajama shorts from Madewell ($45; shopbop.com), I can easily master Andie's sweet, versatile, '00s look — without being obvious about it.
